Special Feature: Silicon Valley Comic Con (2017)

The SIDEWALKS team brought back some great photos and celebrity interviews from the Silicon Valley Comic Con 2017. Just added interviews with Sam J. Jones, Marina Sirtis, Jeryl Prescott, Chase Masterson, Matt Frewer and Gigi Edgley.

Hosts Lori Rosales & Richard R. Lee and photographers Rebeca Zuniga & J.P. Langston attended the 2nd Annual Silicon Valley Comic Con in San Jose, CA on April 22 and 23, 2017.

A three-day event, the concept of Silicon Valley Comic Con (SVCC) is to bring together America’s two greatest superheroes: Pop Culture and Technology. Presented by Steve Wozniak, the true pioneer (along with Apple Computer co-founder Steve Jobs) of the personal computer revolution of the 1970s, SVCC featured celebrities, comics, independent artists, cosplay, video games, consumer electronics, music and apps. In the developers’ mind, Silicon Valley Comic Con is where entertainment and the electronic worlds intersect.

Some of the highlights of the 2017 event are celebrity guests: Grant Gustin (The CW’s “The Flash”) Tom Felton (“The Flash,” “Harry Potter” films), John Cusack (“Being John Malkovich,” “High Fidelity,” “Sixteen Candles”), Gina Torres (“Suits,” “Firefly”), Billy Boyd (“The Lord of the Rings”), William Shatner (“Star Trek,” “Boston Legal”), Buzz Aldrin (Apollo 11 Astronaut and one of the first people to walk on the moon), Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead”), Robert Englund (“Nightmare on Elm Street”), Adam West and Burt Ward (“Batman”), and Pam Grier (“Foxy Brown”), as well as The 30th anniversary cast reunion of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

The 2nd annual event has expanded beyond the main San Jose Convention Center. Unlike the first year, there are more panel sessions and they used the nearby City National Civic to hold larger events, such as “Star Trek: The Next Generation” 30th Anniversary Celebration. They also expanded the celebrity guest area to hold more of your favorite actors from TV and film and a bigger section for photo opportunities. The City of San Jose also allowed the convention to have an outdoor festival at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez across the street from the San Jose Convention Center. Opened to SVCC attendees and the general public, the festival had a two-day Science Fair focused on “Save the Planet” in honor of Earth Day (Saturday) and “Technology of the Future” (Sunday) featuring robotics and space travel; educational and interactive displays from Children’s Discovery Museum and NASA; and close to a dozen food trucks.

The ambitious SVCC has become one of the main events for the City of San Jose … in a very short amount of time.
