Sonequa Martin-Green has been in two major TV franchises: ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Star Trek.’ Now, she is the lead in a dark indie dramedy, ‘My Dead Friend Zoe.’

SIDEWALKS host Lori Rosales welcomes actor Sonequa Martin-Green about her role in the film, “My Dead Friend Zoe,” and her best moments on her former TV series, “Star Trek: Discovery.”
In “My Dead Friend Zoe,” Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green) is a U.S. veteran who keeps seeing the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her best friend who died in combat. When her estranged grandfather is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, she decides to become his caretaker while also trying to heal herself. Directed by Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, the film also stars Gloria Reuben, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Morgan Freeman, and Ed Harris.

Born on March 21, 1985, in Russellville, Alabama, Sonequa Martin-Green is known for her roles in two major franchises: playing Sasha Williams in “The Walking Dead” (2012–2017) and Captain Michael Burnham in “Star Trek: Discovery” (2017–2024). She has also appeared in shows like “Once Upon a Time,” “New Girl,” “Army Wives,” “NYC 22,” and “The Good Wife,” as well as films such as “Space Jam: A New Legacy” and “The Outside Story.”
