In a special interview, SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes talks to actor Sam Heughan (who plays Bruce Wayne / Batman) and DC Entertainment’s co-publisher Jim Lee about the stage production of “Batman Live – World Arena Tour.”
Two and a half years in the making, the arena tour features a state-of-the-art live-action stage around a huge 3D Gotham City Landscape, 105-foot bat-shape LED, and a large 42-member cast, which includes popular “Batman” villains such as The Joker, Catwoman, The Riddler and The Penguin. Additionally, “Batman Live” showcases a Batmobile that is designed by Professor Gordon Murray, the legendary Formula One race car designer.
Heughan was trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and was nominated for “Most Promising Performance” at the 2003 Laurence Olivier Awards. He has starred in many roles in theatre, television and film, including the stage production of Macbeth (Nottingham, Edinburgh Lyceum), Emulsion (White Lantern Films), and as a regular character in BBC Soaps, “River City” and “Doctors.”
Lee is a comic book artist and the Co-Publisher of DC Entertainment. He was also the artist for many of DC Comics’ bestselling comic books and graphic novels, including “All Star Batman and Robin,” “The Boy Wonder,” “Batman: Hush,” and “Superman: For Tomorrow.” In addition, Lee serves as the Executive Creative Director for the DC Universe Online (DCUO) massively multiplayer online game from Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). As part of DC Comics-The New 52, Lee is drawing “Justice League.”
“Batman Live” was created by Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Entertainment and Nick Grace of Water Lane Productions, and features a brand-new original storyline.
The tour itself is traveling around the world and is making stops in North American cities, which started in September 2012.
