SIDEWALKS host Veronica Castro talks to Rebecca Naomi Jones and Patrice Covington, two of the actress starring as Aretha Franklin’s sisters in National Geographic’s “Genius: Aretha.” Besides talking about their roles, the actresses talk about the early beginning of their careers and what’s up next for them.

Rebecca Naomi Jones is a singer and actress known for her theatre roots. Some of her Broadway roles were in “Oklahoma!,” “Significant Other,” “Hedwig and The Angry Inch,” ” American Idiot,” and “Passing Strange.” Her Selected Off-Broadway performances include “Big Love,”” Murder Ballad,” “Describe the Night,” “Marie and Rosetta,” “Fire In Dreamland,” “The Fortress of Solitude,” “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” “Wig Out!,” and “As You Like It.” Jones has been on the big screen, which includes “Someone Great,” “The Outside Story,” ” French Fries,” ” Most Likely To Murder,” “The Big Sick,” “Ratter,” “Ordinary World,” “Passing Strange,” and the documentary “Broadway Idiot.” On TV, she appeared in “Strangers,” “High Maintenance,” “Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll,” “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Limitless,” and “Difficult People.” On “Genius: Aretha,” she plays Carolyn Franklin.
Patrice Covington is an actress, singer, teacher, author, and model. She is best known for playing Squeak in the 2015 revival of “The Color Purple.” Covington provided background vocals for performers like Stevie Wonder and Christina Aguilera. Her first film is the Amazon film, “They Come. They Go.” On “Genius: Aretha,” Covington plays Erma Franklin in her TV debut.
