Mini-Biography: Born in Robbins, Illinois, Nichelle Nichols is an actress, singer and dancer. She is best known as communications officer Lieutenant Uhura on the original “Star Trek” series and feature films, as well as online version “Star Trek: Of Gods and Men.” Before acting, she sang and toured with Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton and their bands. Other acting roles include “Made in Paris ,” “Mister Buddwing,” “Snow Dogs,” “Are We There Yet?,” “Lady Magdalene's,” and “Tru Loved.” Nichols also did voice roles in animated series “Futurama,” “Gargoyles,” “Batman: The Animated Series,” and “Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster.” She volunteered with NASA to recruit female and minority personnel.
