Mini-Biography:
Considered “a pioneer in true crime,” Marc Smerling is a film producer, screenwriter, cinematographer, and director. His projects include documentary “Capturing the Friedmans” (nominated for an Academy Award); co-wrote and produced the six-part HBO documentary, “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst”; the documentary film, “Catfish” (and inspired MTV’s “Catfish: The TV Show”); and co-wrote and produced the narrative feature “All Good Things” that starred Ryan Gosling, Kirsten Dunst and Frank Langella. Smerling’s first podcast, “Crimetown: Providence,” quickly became the most popular U.S. podcast on iTunes and appeared on 2017’s top ten lists including The New York Times and The Atlantic. The filmmaker opened Truth Media, a television and podcast production company in 2018.
