From Silicon Valley Comic Con, SIDEWALKS host Richard R. Lee talks to actor Jon Provost about working as a young actor, his role on “Lassie,” and working with June Lockhart (who played mom Ruth Martin).
Mini-Biography:
Born in Los Angeles, Jon Provost (at age 4) was first seen in films, such as “The Country Girl” (1954) with Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly; “Back from Eternity” (1956) with Anita Ekberg; and “Escapade in Japan” (1957) with Teresa Wright, Cameron Mitchell, and then unknown Clint Eastwood. In 1957, he was cast as Timmy Martin in CBS’ “Lassie,” joining the show in the 4th season. Provost also played real estate agent Steve McCullough (the character later revealed in an episode that he was a now-adult Timmy) on a new syndicated version called “The New Lassie.” Other films roles for Provost included “This Property is Condemned,” “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes,” “The Secret of the Sacred Forestand,” “Star Time,” and “Susie’s Hope.”
