SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes talks to Jay Jay French and Dee Snider about meeting and working together with Twisted Sister. Additionally, they discuss their Mariachi-style version of their hit song, “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” which is part of a Hornitos Cinco de Mayo campaign.
Twisted Sister is a heavy metal band that’s known for their makeup and costumes and major hits in the 1980’s, such as “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock.” Jay Jay French is a founding member and one of two guitarists of the group, while Dee Snider is the lead singer.
Born in New York City, French (real name John Segall) was part of the glitter band, Silver Star, which changed its name to Twisted Sister. He also managed and produced albums for the band Sevendust and played lead guitar in Lordi’s “The Chainsaw Buffét.”
Born in Astoria, New York, Snider joined Twisted Sister in early 1976 and became the sole songwriter of the band thereafter. Following his departure from the group, he formed bands Desperado and Widowmaker. Beyond music, Snider has appeared in several reality TV shows, including “Gone Country,” ” Rock The Cradle,” “Growing Up Twisted,” and “Celebrity Apprentice.” Snider has his own nationally syndicated radio show, “House Of Hair,” which can be heard on more than 200 stations in North America.
