In a rare United States TV interview at that time, Doctor Who stars Matt Smith (plays the 11th Doctor) and Karen Gillan (companion Amy Pond) talk about starring in the long-running international hit. Mini-Biographies:
Born and raised in Northampton, Matt Smith was an aspiring youth footballer until a back injury in 2003. Matt became an actor, who played Jim Taylor in the BBC adaptations of Phillip Pullman’s “The Ruby in the Smoke” and “The Shadow in the North” and as Danny in the BBC series Party Animals. He has guest-starred in “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” and “The Street.” Some of his theatrical work include “Fresh Kills,” “That Face,” “The History Boys,” and “Swimming with Sharks.” Matt was announced as the 11th Doctor for Doctor Who in January 2009, with a first appearance in part two of the 2010 special, “The End of Time.”

Born and raised in Inverness, Scotland, Karen Gillan is an actress and model, who has appeared in “The Kevin Bishop Show,” “Rebus,” and “Harley Street.” She had previously appeared in an earlier “Doctor Who” episode called “The Fires of Pompeii,” where she had a minor role as a soothsayer, before she joined the 11th Doctor (Smith) as companion Amy Pond in his regular adventures in 2010.
