Director Adam Shankman returns to tell us why he picked Tom Cruise and some behind-the-scenes details in the making of “Rock of Ages” for the big screen.

In his 2nd SIDEWALKS ENTERTAINMENT interview (the first in 2007 with “Hairspray“), the director talks about his early start in the business as a dancer. He tells SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes about the making of the feature-film musical, “Rock of Ages” (which he directed), and how Tom Cruise was picked in playing the character of aging rocker Stacee Jaxx.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Adam Shankman is a multi-talented film director, producer, dancer, choreographer and a TV judge.
Started his career as a dancer in such music videos as Janet Jackson’s “Amazing” video and in a MC Skat Kat video with Paula Abdul. He is known as a choreographer for such projects as a Spice Girls tour, films “Boogie Nights ” “Addams Family Values,” “The Flintstones,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Step Up 2 the Streets,” and “The Wedding Planner.”
TV audiences will know Shankman as a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance” since Season 3.
Along with directing TV shows like “Glee,” “Modern Family,” and “Monk,” Shankman has directed several feature-length films, including “A Walk to Remember,” “Bringing Down the House,” “Cheaper by the Dozen 2,” and the remake of “Hairspray.”
