Actress Teri Garr talked to host Cindy Rhodes about her career and, at the time of the interview, the 25th anniversary re-release of Mel Brooks’ “Young Frankenstein.” Plus, she answered questions from our web viewers, including working with Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe’s mom on “Friends.”

Mini-Biography:

Born in Los Angeles and spent her early years in Lakewood, Ohio, Teri Garr was an actress, dancer, and comedian. She began her career as a dancer, appearing in several Elvis Presley films, such as “Fun in Acapulco,” “Kissin’ Cousins,” and “Viva Las Vegas,” in uncredited roles. Her breakthrough came with her role as Inga in the 1974 Mel Brooks comedy “Young Frankenstein.” Garr received critical acclaim for her performance in the 1982 film “Tootsie,” for which she was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Supporting Actress. Other notable film credits include “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977), “Mr. Mom” (1983), “After Hours” (1985), “Dumb and Dumber” (1994), “Michael” (1996) and “Ghost World” (2001). On television, she played various characters on “The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour” and had recurring roles in “Good & Evil,” “Women of the House,” “Friends,” and her voice as Mary McGinnis in the animated “Batman Beyond.” “Star Trek” fans will remember her as Roberta Lincoln in the original series episode, “Assignment: Earth.” Additionally, Garr has also appeared in numerous stage productions throughout her career. In 2002, Garr publicly announced that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, becoming an advocate for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1983. Ms. Teri Garr passed away on October 29, 2024 at age 79.
