In June 2006, SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes talked to the fitness personality, Richard Simmons, who told us about how everyone should eat a salad a day to help lose weight and be fit. Additionally, he talked about the first-ever salad fashion show, The Salad Days of Summer Fashion Show, that helped raised money for America’s Second Harvest.

Please note: This online version of the interview is slightly different than how it appeared on the TV episode.

Mini-Biography:

30 years and 3,000 pounds later, Richard Simmons was one of the nation’s most beloved healthy lifestyle expert. The New Orleans native has helped millions of overweight men and women lose close to 3,000,000 pounds by adopting sensible balanced eating programs and exercise regimes. Simmons has penned books and cookbooks, produced weight loss programs like “Deal-A-Meal” and “FoodMover,” and has starred in over fifty fitness videos (which have sold more than 20 million copies), including “Sweatin’ to the Oldies,” “Party off the Pounds” and “Totally Tonin’.” On TV, he had a four-year run on ABC’s “General Hospital” and his own self-titled nationally syndicated talk show. He hosted a weekly Sirius radio show called “Lighten Up with Richard Simmons.” Richard Simmons passed away on July 13, 2024, just one day after his 76th birthday.
