SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes talked to the singer / actress about getting her first break in music, how does acting fit in her career, and shooting her Lifetime made-for-cable movie, “Christmas in the City.”
Mini-Biography:
Born in Glen Cove, New York, Ashanti burst onto the music scene in 2002 with her self-titled debut, featuring hit singles such as “Foolish,” “Happy” and “Baby.” She released her 2nd album, “Chapter II,” in 2003 that included international hit, “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby).” “Concrete Rose” (2004), “The Declaration” (2008) and “BraveHeart” (2013) are her other studio albums. Ashanti has been nominated for many music awards, including winning a Grammy Award® for Best Contemporary R&B Album (“Ashanti”) in 2003. As an actress, she has been building her acting resume with roles in films such as “Coach Carter,” “John Tucker Must Die,” and “Resident Evil Extinction,” as well as becoming a regular cast member on “Army Wives” during the final season of that series.
