SIDEWALKS host Veronica Castro talks to the writers/director of the comedy film, “The Way, Way Back,” which stars Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, AnnaSophia Robb, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, Rob Corddry, Amanda Peet, and Liam James. In addition to the film, Faxon and Rash discuss their time with the Los Angeles-based improvisational and sketch comedy troupe, The Groundlings.

Nat Faxon is an actor, comedian and Oscar®-winning screenwriter. As an actor, Faxon has been seen in a number of comedic films, such as “Orange County,” “ Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,” “ Bad Teacher,” and several Broken Lizard films, which include “Beerfest,” ”Freeloaders,” and “The Babymakers.” On TV, Faxon had roles in “Grosse Pointe,” “Happy Hour,” and “Ben and Kate.” Additionally, he had recurring roles in “Reno 911!,”“The Cleveland Show,” “Joey,” “Up All Night.”
Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jim Rash is an actor, comedian, producer, and Oscar®-winning screenwriter. TV audiences will know him for playing Dean Pelton on “Community.” He also had a main role in “Help Me Help You” and recurring roles in “The Naked Truth,” “Reno 911!,” and “That ’70s Show.” He is also known for playing Mr. Grayson/Stitches, a sidekick to the supervillain Royal Pain in “Sky High.” Other film roles are “Slackers,” “Minority Report,” “Balls of Fury,” and “The Onion Movie.”
Faxon and Rash met each other when they were performing at The Groundlings in Los Angeles. Together, they co-wrote the screenplay (along with Alexander Payne) for the film “The Descendants,” which won an Oscar® for Best Screenplay. In 2013, they made their directorial debut with “The Way, Way Back.”
