SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes interviews the country music legend about his career, how country music has changed, and his love for golf. As part of the promotional tour, Gatlin tells us about an inaugural country music cruise in January 2014 hosted by television and radio personality Lorianne Crook and featuring an all-star lineup like Vince Gill, Kenny Rogers, Patty Loveless, Jo Dee Messina, Ronnie Milsap, Restless Heart, and many more.
Mini-Biography:
Born in Seminole, Texas, Larry Gatlin is a country music singer / songwriter.
Started out performing gospel with his brothers Steve and Rudy, he became a songwriter for singer Dottie West. From there, he became a successful solo recording artist. His song, “Broken Lady,” became a big hit, which won him a 1976 Grammy® Award for Best Country Song. The song was also recorded by West.
He teamed up with his brothers to form Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers, where they became a popular act in the 70’s and 80’s. Together, they had majors hits, such as “All the Gold in California”, “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You),” “She Used to Be Somebody’s Baby,” and “Talkin’ to the Moon.” In December 1992, the brothers did a final farewell concert tour.
Gatlin had the lead role in the Tony® award-winning best musical, “The Will Rogers Follies.”
