SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes talks to the director about his 2011 feature film, “Bully,” a documentary about bullying in schools across America through the stories of five students, who faced bullying on a daily basis. Additionally, he tells us how he wants the film to help other kids who are being bullied through “The Bully Project,” a social outreach campaign.
Mini-Biography:
Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Sundance and Emmy-award winner Lee Hirsch is known as documentary filmmaker. He graduated from the Putney School in 1990. Hirsch made his feature film debut in 2002 with “Amandla! a Revolution in Four Part Harmony,” which chronicles the history of the South African anti-apartheid struggle through the use of music. Hirsch also directed and produced “Act of Honor” for the History Channel and the multi-part series, “Next World,” for Discovery Channel. Additionally, he directed “Laidback Knowledge.” The filmmaker is also an established director of music videos, including Vusi Mahlasela (“Silang Mabele”), TKZ (“We Love This Place / Mambotje,” “Dlala Mapantsula”), Bongo Maffin (“Mari ye Pepha”) and John Legend (“Show Me”).
