SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes interviews the actress about working on “Blossom” and playing Sheldon’s girlfriend on “The Big Bang Theory.” She also talks about her career outside of show business, including having a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from U.C.L.A. As part of the promotional tour, she talks about her involvement with Texas Instruments (TI) as the spokesperson for its TI-NspireTM CX math and science learning technology, as well as a national public service campaign to encourage students to study science and math.
Mini-Biography
Born in San Diego, California and raised in Los Angeles, Mayim Bialik is an actress and neuroscientist. She is known for her role as the lead in the 90’s comedy “Blossom” and as her portrayal as a young Bette Midler in “Beaches.” Lately, she became a regular on the hit comedy series, “The Big Bang Theory” as Amy Farrah Fowler. As a child actress, she appeared on “MacGyver,” “The Facts of Life,” “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” and “Webster.” Some of her recent TV appearances include “Secret Life of the American Teenager,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “‘Til Death,” On the big screen, she was featured in “Pumpkinhead,” “Don’t Drink the Water,” “Kalamazoo?,” and “Chicago 8.” Bialik received her B.S. in Neuroscience and Hebrew and Jewish Studies from UCLA in 2000 and earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience in 2007 from UCLA, specializing in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in adolescents with Prader-Willi syndrome.
