In a special interview sent to “Sidewalks Entertainment,” the rapper / actor talks about his directorial feature-film debut entitled “Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap,” a film that takes viewers on a personal journey into the craft and skill of rap, and what goes on inside the minds and erupts from the pens of 38 rap legends.

Born in New Jersey, Ice-T is known as the godfather of Gangsta rap. An only child whose parents died when he was very young, Ice became involved in Los Angeles gangs before spending four years in the army.

His first break came when the producers of the film “Breakin”’ asked him to rap in the movie. From there, he went on to become a recording artist and wrote songs like “Six in the Mornin” and “New Jack Hustler.”

In 1989, he formed Rhyme Syndicate Records and released several West Coast rap records. Additionally, he and guitarist Ernie C. formed the thrash metal band, Body Count, where their 1991 self-titled debut album contained the controversial single “Cop Killer.”

As an actor, Ice-T has appeared in films, including “New Jack City,” “Ricochet,” “Trespass,” “Tank Girl,” and “Johnny Mnemonic.” Since 2000, he has played Detective Odafin Tutuola on the long-running “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

Ice-T also stars on the reality show “Ice Loves Coco” with his wife Coco for the E! Network.
