Mika’s Take:
Everything happens for a reason. “Jeff, Who Lives at Home” is an indie film that surrounds this theme.

Jeff, played by Jason Segel (“The Muppets,” “How I Met Your Mother”), lives with his mother (Susan Sarandon) in their basement. Jeff has a brother, Pat (Ed Helms, ” The Hangover) who is the complete opposite of Jeff as he’s ambitious, married and employed.

The two brothers coincide when Jeff is sent by his mother to run a simple errand. While trying to complete the errand, Pat comes to realization that his marriage with his wife (Judy Greer) is on the rocks and drags Jeff along with him to follow her, suspecting that she’s having an affair. Jeff is a firm believer of finding fate and destiny on one’s own and Pat believes that the best way to tackle life is rolling with the punches.

The title is a bit deceiving as Jeff does live at home, but for most of the film, he is out of the house in search of his true destiny. Prior to the viewing, I imagined it to be a comedy about an overgrown man who lives at home but instead it was a drama featuring a man who matures as he finds his own destiny.

Helms and Segel are comedians on their own but together, their relationship makes a perfect duo and will please fans nationwide.

“Jeff, Who Lives At Home” is a corky drama/comedy that will pull you in with the moral of the story, yet it still will make you chuckle.
