Shipp and drummer AJ Newton, two members of the Nashville surf-grunge rockers, Rusty Shipp. They talk about naming the group; their style of music; the theme of their album, “Liquid Exorcist”; and what they did during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mini-Biography:
Rusty Shipp is a Nashville-based nautical rock n’ roll band that endeavors a mixture of harsh rock tones with the oceanic vibes of 60s-style surf-rock. The band started in 2014 and currently features AJ Newton on drums, Elijah Apperson on lead guitar, Andrew “Speedy” Speed on bass, and Russ T. Shipp on vocals / guitar. Rusty Shipp has won Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and three other awards in the 2020 JFH Awards. Additionally, their music was nominated for Alternative Rock Album (won runner up) and Song of 2019 in The Grizzly Awards. Effect Radio named Rusty Shipp top 30 artists of 2020.
