SIDEWALKS host Lori Rosales welcomes back Danny Pino and Edward James Olmos, the stars of “Mayans M.C.” They talk about starting in acting and working on season 3 during a pandemic.
Mini-Biographies:
Born in Miami, Florida, Danny Pino had regular roles as Detective Scotty Valens on CBS’ “Cold Case” (2003–2010) and as NYPD Detective Nick Amaro in NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2011-2015). In addition to his role as drug cartel leader Miguel Galindo on “Mayans M.C.,” Pino also plays FBI agent John Bishop in “Gone,” which is seen on WGN America in the United States. He had memorable parts as Mexican drug lord and serial rapist Armadillo Quintero on FX’s “The Shield” and as Alex Vargas in season 5 of “Scandal.” Pino’s other work include “The Lost City,” “Flicka,” “The Burning Plain,” and playing Desi Arnaz in the TV-movie “Lucy.”
Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Edward James Olmos is an actor and director. He is known for memorable roles on TV and films, including playing police Lieutenant Martin Castillo on “Miami Vice”; real-life math teacher Jaime Escalante in “Stand and Deliver”; Abraham Quintanilla in “Selena”; Gaff in “Blade Runner”; and Admiral William Adama in the re-imagined “Battlestar Galactica” series. Mr. Olmos also directed projects, including an episode of “Miami Vice,” a couple episodes of “Battlestar Galactica” and post-series film “Battlestar Galactica: The Plan,” and films “American Me” and “The Devil Has a Name.” Throughout his extensive career, Mr. Olmos received numerous accolades, including an LA Drama Circle Award, an Emmy® (in addition to three nominations) and two Golden Globe® Awards. In 1988, he received an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Jaime Escalante in “Stand By Me.” At the 35th Annual Saturn Awards in 2009, he received the award for the Best TV Actor for his role in “Battlestar Galactica.” He’s a United States Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and a national spokesperson for the organizations, such as Southwest Voter Registration Project, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the AIDS Awareness Foundation.
