Thanks to actress Chase Masterson (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”) who setup the meeting, our TV show had a rare opportunity to interview actor Peter Mayhew, who was at the time promoting “Yesterday Was A Lie” starring Ms. Masterson. At WonderCon, host Richard R. Lee talked to Mr. Mayhew about being Chewbecca and auditioning for roles.
Mini-Biography:
Born in London and was raised in Barnes, Surrey. Peter Mayhew stood at
7 feet 3 inches. He is best known for playing Han Solo’s (Harrison Ford) friend and Millennium Falcon pilot, Chewbacca. He played the Wookie in five “Star Wars” films: “Star Wars: A New Hope,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Return of the Jedi,” “Episode III – Revenge of the Sith,” and “The Force Awakens.” Other Chewbacca appearances include “The Star Wars Holiday Special” and a 1980 episode of “The Muppet Show.” Outside of the space drama, Mayhew was seen in “Terror” and “Yesterday Was a Lie.” He used his voice in the English version of “Dragon Ball GT: A Hero’s Legacy” and the Season 3 finale episode, “Wookiee Hunt,” on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” Mayhew wrote two books, “Growing Up Giant” and “My Favorite Giant.”
