Promoting new episodes airing on PBS Kids, SIDEWALKS host Lori Rosales talks to “Sesame Street” stars Elmo and Cookie Monster, as well as Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, the Senior Vice President of Curriculum and Content at Sesame Workshop.

Cookie Monster is a frenzied, yet cuddly, character with a persistent quest to find more food, especially cookies! Those who are learning and discovering new aspects of language can identify with Cookie Monster as he represents children with various speech abilities. His voracious appetite has made him the perfect character to model healthy habits as he continues to learn about cooking and eating healthy foods. Despite his struggle to control his impulses and delay gratification, Cookie Monster will always share his food with his friends like Elmo and Abby.
Elmo is a 3½-year-old red monster with a high-pitched voice and a contagious giggle. Enthusiastic, friendly and curious, he always wants to explore new things and be a part of everything that goes on. However, like most preschoolers, he sometimes doesn’t have the skills or knowledge to do what he wants. But that never stops him because he has a very positive, optimistic view of himself and life. Elmo always tries to do the right thing in every situation and encourages his friends to do the same.
Dr. Rosemarie Truglio is the Senior Vice President of Curriculum and Content at Sesame Workshop. Dr. Truglio is responsible for the development of the interdisciplinary curriculum on which Sesame Street is based, and oversees content development across platforms (e.g., television, publishing, toys, home video, and theme park activities). Before joining Sesame Workshop in 1997, she was an Assistant Professor of Communication and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. She has written numerous articles in child and developmental psychology journals and presented her work at national and international conferences. Dr. Truglio currently serves on several advisory boards: the PBS KIDS Next Generation Media; PlayAbility Scale Board/Parent’s Choice Foundation; The Ultimate Block Party/Learn Now; and an NSF REESE grant entitled Collaborative Research: Using Educational DVDs to Enhance Preschooler’s STEM Education. She previously served on the National Advisory Child Health and Human Development Council (NICHD), the Children’s Digital Media Center Advisory Board, and the National Association for Media Literacy Education.
