Homerun slugger Harmon Killebrew, who hit more than 500 home runs during his career, passed away after a battle with esophageal cancer on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. He was 74.

In this July 2007 interview taped on the day of the All-Star Game in San Francisco, SIDEWALKS host Rafael Siegel speaks to the baseball legend about his choice between playing baseball or football and the differences between baseball now and before. Additionally, Harmon answers questions from Rick Schu, the hitting coordinator for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Tony DeFrancesco, the Manager of the Sacramento River Cats. As part of the promotional tour, Harmon talks about the DVD release of “The Home Run Derby, Volume 1” featuring the sports’ ultimate power-hitting contest. The DVD displays the 1959 contests from baseball greats, including Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks and Hank Aaron.
Mini-Biography:
Harmon Killebrew is a former Major League Baseball player and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. In the 1960s, Harmon was known for making home runs. He played for The Washington Senators / Minnesota Twins (1954 – 1974) and Kansas City Royals (1975). Some of his career highlights include: eleven All-Star appearances, American League MVP (1969), led American League in home runs six times; was ninth player to hit 500 career home runs, and hit 40 home runs in a season eight times.
