SIDEWALKS host Cindy Rhodes speaks to the legendary actress about her beginnings as a dancer and her latest role in “Elsa & Fred,” a story of two people (co-starring Christopher Plummer) who discover love late in life.
Mini-Biography:
Born in Richmond, VA, Shirley MacLaine is a legendary actress, singer, dancer, author and activist. She has been nominated and won many awards, including winning the Academy Award® for Best Actress (“Terms of Endearment”), Golden Globe Awards® (“The Trouble with Harry,” “The Apartment,” “Irma la Douce,” “Terms of Endearment,” “Madame Sousatzka”), Emmy Award® (“Gypsy in My Soul”), and BAFTA Awards® (“Ask Any Girl,” “The Apartment”). She received the 40th AFI Life Achievement Award® in 2012.
A long list of film roles include “Hot Spell,” “Around the World in 80 Days,” “Some Came Running,” “The Children’s Hour,” “The Turning Point,” “A Change of Seasons,” “Steel Magnolias,” “Bruno” (she also directed), “Sweet Charity,” “Being There,” “Postcards from the Edge,” “Used People,” “Guarding Tess,” “Mrs. Winterbourne,” “Rumor Has It…,” “In Her Shoes,” “Valentine’s Day,” and “Closing the Ring.”
Along with a short-lived television sitcom called “Shirley’s World,” some of her TV projects were “Coco Chanel,” “Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning,” “Downton Abbey,” and “Glee.”
