`Sidewalks` is honored to interview the legendary
actor
Now in his early 90's, Ernest Borgnine has a long list of credits,
but is best known to TV audiences for McHale's
Navy (1962-1966) and Airwolf (1984-1986).
On the big screen, he found his break break in "From
Here to Eternity" (1953). In 1955, Ernest starred as
a butcher in the film version of the television play
"Marty," which won him an Academy AwardŽ for Best
Actor.
Other film roles include "The Vikings" (1958), "The
Flight of the Phoenix" (1965), "The Dirty Dozen"
(1967), "The Wild Bunch (1969)", "The Poseidon
Adventure" (1972), and "The Black Hole" (1979).
Since 1999, kids (and parents) may recognized his
voice as the elderly superhero Mermaid Man in the
animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants.
In this 2008 interview, host Rafael Siegel talks to
Ernest about starting acting after ten years serving
in the United States Navy and writing a new
autobiography, entitled "Ernie." As part of the promotional tour,
Ernest tells us about working with the late actress
Bette Davis and about Warner Home Video's
latest DVD collector set called "The Bette Davis Collection -
Volume 3," featuring six fully restored titles: "In
This Our Life"; "The Old Maid"' "All This, and
Heaven Too"; "The Great Lie"; "Deception"; and
"Watch on the Rhine."
