There
were many on-air personalities on the original Sidewalks series. The show
gave many newcomers their first
opportunity to appear on television.
The first set of nine shows was hosted by Robert
Guarino and Rosie Sorenson.
When the show returned the following year, Guarino and Sorenson became
part-time personalities (due to jobs and other commitments), with Marci
Camacho taking over. Joining Camacho on the set for the next two years
were either newcomers Jon Golden or Dave Wilson.
The next two years of the show saw R&B singer/actress Denise
Yvonne (now using the stage name Dee Jones and singing with her
group Dee and Jay) as the host. When Yvonne
left (due to school, family commitments and a rising singing career), the
hosting of Sidewalks became more of an ensemble offering. Veronica
Davis, Dave Saffell, Nestor
Rocha, Nicole Sharpe, and Sibyl Motley were
some of the personalities during that season.
In 1993, Cindy Rhodes started anchoring
the show. Rhodes was then joined by Jennifer
Parnoff and Veronica Ornelas-Hale.
A year later, Rafael Hernandez
and Nicole Greeson were added to the list.
Lovelle
Robinson, Brian Bland, Stephanie
Colquitt, Michelle Livengood,
Joy Garner, Erin Willis, 15-year old Shaunte
Adams, Alex Lake, Bay Area radio DJ Gary Baca, Marcelo
Acevedo, actress Martha DelRebo,
and Kalyn
Sloan (former host of TV's Video Preview) were on-air contributors
during the early years.
In 1997, actor Anthony
Snow appeared on a number of
segments, while Sidewalks creator Richard
R. Lee became a regular on-air personality
during the 1998 season.
In 2002, the
show introduced newcomer Monica
Calzada and re-introduced former
host Rafael
Siegel (previously Hernandez), who
returned as an East Coast correspondent.
Also in late 2002 came correspondent Lisa
Cruz and model Brandace Moore,
who appeared in two regular Sidewalks
episodes.
In 2003, Sidewalks welcomed singer Eboni
Warnking to the on-air rank with correspondents
Shereelynn
Manlangit and Leonard Spoto.
In 2004, newcomer Michelle Marquez
appeared on one episode. In 2005,
actress Eve
Galazin was added to the hosting roster
and Nadine
Toren became an on-air reporter
for our
Wondercon segment. In late 2006,
Natalie Manuel joined as a
correspondent. In 2007,
Ray Alvarado
became a special correspondent. In
2008, Maaika
Westen and Jeni Maldonado
joined the on-air team.
Out of all the faces that graced the screen, none was as popular as Mel
Menefee. After appearing in episode three, the older Menefee, who
originally started as a production crew member, became the "official"
gimmick -- and co-host -- for most of the show's run. The producers used
Menefee's zaniness to form comedic situations, while the other personalities
were hosting the episodes. Menefee appeared on the show from 1988 - 1994.
Dee Jones and Mel Menefee returned to Sidewalks
Entertainment briefly in 1998 and appeared in a couple of episodes.
