Mel
Menefee was a cast member between 1988
through 1994. After an appearance in episode
three of the original cable series, Mel, who
originally started as a production crew member, became the "official"
gimmick -- and co-host -- for a majority of the show's early run. The producers used
Menefee's zaniness to form comedic situations, while the other personalities
were hosting the episodes. Mel worked with several on-air personalities,
including Robert Guarino, Rosie
Sorenson, Denise
Yvonne, Veronica Davis, Cindy
Rhodes, Jennifer Parnoff and Veronica
Hale-Ornelas during his tenure on Sidewalks.

The
Mel Menefee Show: One
of Mel's most humorous bits from
the original show was when he dreamed he
had his own late-night talk show with
co-host Denise Yvonne (now Dee
Jones) as his happy-to-have-a-job
sidekick. Other faces in the bit included Marcelo
Acevedo as Mel's fan club president
and Jim Ritz as the show's
bandleader. Mel's real-life wife Geny,
who passed away in February 2005, appeared in the opening of the clip.
