BoA returns to Sidewalks for second interview! Fan questions will be asked.

03/11/09 | by sidewalkstv [mail] | Categories: Sidewalks TV

"Sidewalks Entertainment" has been offered a second opportunity to interview international pop star BoA. The 22-year old is a major singing superstar and she’s the number one charting pop star from Asia who boasts nearly 20 million albums sold world wide.

Follow up:

Born in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, BoA, who was accompanying her older brother, was discovered at a talent search. After that, her life changed. In 2000, BoA released her debut Korean album, "ID; Peace B," at age 13. Following the success of her Korean album, her record company, SM Entertainment, made an arrangement with a Japanese label and released her debut Japanese 2001 album, "Listen to My Heart." As the years progressed and her popularity grew, she released more albums in both Korea and Japan, including "Valenti" (2003) and "My Name" (2004). Her popularity overseas is similar to how Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Beyonce are perceived in the United States. BoA has enjoyed a successful nine-year career in Asia where she has released eleven #1 albums.

BoA is gearing up to launch her brand new single, “I Did It For Love” with top US hit-maker, Sean Garrett. Recorded in Atlanta, GA with Grammy nominated Garrett, who is responsible for #1 hits by Beyonce, Fergie, Nelly, Ciara and more, “I Did It For Love” will be the launching pad leading into her self-titled album, “BoA,” set to arrive in stores on March 17, 2009 on SM Entertainment. The album will release worldwide on that day in the US, Korea and Japan.

BoA enlisted the help of top US and Asian hit-makers for her US album. Garrett returns with the club banger “Energetic.” Brian Kennedy, who has created hits for top recording stars including Rihanna, produced “Obsessed” while Henrik Jonback, brought his Pop expertise to the table with the chart topping “Eat You Up,” “Look Who’s Talking” and “Hypnotic Dancefloor.” Jonback, a new producer, has written several hits for Britney Spears including “Radar.” Bloodshy & Avant, who produced “Did Ya” and “Touched,” have produced several hits for Britney Spears, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Jordin Sparks, Kylie Minogue and more.

BoA's original interview with Sidewalks correspondent Christina Lee

On October 25, 2008, BoA and her promotional company, SM Entertainment, granted "Sidewalks Entertainment" her very first United States television interview. Taped at the popular Union Square in San Francisco, the original interview quickly became the most popular viewed clip, only hours after its released on SidewalksTV.com (the previous record holder was the men from "Stargate: SG-1"). BoA fans from around the world were excited to hear the singer speak conversational English.

During the week of March 16th, "Sidewalks" is scheduled to interview BoA for her second appearance. Interviewed again by "Sidewalks" correspondent Christina Lee, the show is planning to have a segment block where questions will be from BoA fans.

Depending on time constraints and/or BoA’s availability, "Sidewalks" is considering asking around ten fan questions. Some questions may appear on the TV show and/or web site.

In the comment section below, please submit your question with your name and city and state. Not all questions submitted will be asked to BoA; please write direct questions and not a long letter to BoA (sorry, we won't be able to deliver a personal letter). Additionally, please give questions that would fit for a family-oriented TV program. We are looking for unique questions that the new and previous fans of BoA would enjoy being answered. The producers of "Sidewalks" and/or SM Entertainment may re-write some of the questions or summarized similar questions to fit the interview.

Write your questions now. We will only accept questions until Sunday, March 15th at 10PM (PST).

As promised, here’s your chance to ask BoA a question!

1. This is your third debut since entering this industry; first Korea, then Japan, and finally the U.S. How do you feel always making special debuts? For example, you debuted at such a young age in Korea and that was definitely an attention grabber. You are considered the first successful Korean artist to enter and pave the way for others in the Japanese market. Finally, now people are anticipating for your U.S. debut because they believe you will be the first successful Asian artist here. How do you feel about always setting these amazing records?

2. Have you had time to meet new friends aside from those working around you?

You are undeniably one of the most popular artists in Asia, and one of the reasons why you have achieved this success is the true talent that you have been blessed with. This time, you're now faced with the challenge of entering the huge US market.

(1) How do you think can you bring something new to the people?

(2) What is it that you really want to improve so much for this US debut?

1. Do you plan to continue your music career in the US no matter how your debut album is accepted in the US market?
2. Do you feel isolated in the US market, because to most Americans who had never been exposed to Asian culture, you are relatively unknown?
3. What is your secret to success in the US market? What is different about your music that you think most people will go, "I listen to BoA because she does this sort of music."

Hwaiting BoA!

Hello BoA
You are the most brightest star of the world and I love you so much BoA.You are even much much more important than my life
Your forever happiness and healthiness is the only thing I want most in my life
So I just want to know only one thing

How about your knee joint pain?
Is it still painful or relieve?

I know BoA,you love music even more than your health as if I can love you more than my life
But BoA,don't forget about your health
Health is the most precious thing and if you are unhealthy, you can't do anything esp singing and dancing
So BoA,please don't forget for caring your health esp like that time when you are so busy in traveling to and fro between Japan and US in very tight schedule.

Don't forget BoA
You are never alone
There are so many people who are loving you forever and for someone you are even more important than oneself esp for me

Take Care, Fighting and Happy Forever
I strongly believe that you can success anywhere and anytime you are

Hey BoA!

Intro to question:
Probably the most admirable thing about you is that you have taken the time to pick up on the relevant languages, to a high degree of fluency, in order to debut properly. First Japanese to enter Japan and now English for the US. However, being able to speak English does not only allow you to enter the US but Europe as well, especially with the music style you've now adopted.

Question:
Will you ever turn your attention to your (many) European fans and go there for promotion or even as part of a tour? What are your thoughts on Europe about that?

(And a question to finish it off, after you've possibly conquered Europe as well, will you learn Spanish to conquer the Latin music industry? xD )

Hey BoA!! Here is Luis, from Brazil.
First of all, congratulations for the success at your U.S.A debut.

The questions:

01. I don't know if you did know about your position at American charts, if you do, how do you feel about it? It's really amizing for a Korean singer be at 8th place at Billboards.

02. After confirm your American carreer, do you plan to keep going around the world? Like, I know you have lots of Brazilian fans, so, why not South America as well? Over here, Korean music is becoming more and more popular.

Hwaiting, BoA!
Lots of success!

2. Do you have any plans to visit Brazil again?

3. How do you intend to show your vocals? Since there's no ballads in the album and your voice is so synthesised on the tracks... Some ballads like Love Letter, Winter Love and Everlasting would be amazing in english, they would be great bonus tracks.

4. When will you release another korean album?

Hi, BoA! What's up? Everything's fine? I'm a fan of yours since early 2006. I don't know if you're aware but you have many fans on Brazil. Along with Ayu, Utada and Kumi, you are one of the most popular J-Pop/K-Pop singers here. Well, anyway, I'd like to ask you some things, now that you're closer to us, your Western fans.

1. Your English has improved a lot since your US debut was announced. Impressively. I know that you must be tired of all these people asking you about the difficulty to learn English better, but, how was that? Did you have any difficulties at pronouncing some words and stuff?

2. What's your diet, kind of miracle or whatever to be so pretty? I wish I was as pretty as you!

3. I Did It For Love is such a hot mainstream song, I can already see it as a hit on the radios. Are you excited for upcoming performances, promotion and a possible huge success?

4. Release Look Who's Talking as a single asap. It is too hot to be just another album track.

5. What Western artists do you like the most? And what Japanese / Korean / Chinese artists (female or not) do you admire the most?

6. If you were in a dark room with no one else around but a celebrity, who would you chose to eat up, so yum yum? :P

BoA, I'm from Brazil and love you since 2005 (Dakishimeru's era). I really hope you will spark in American sky for a long time!

I have two simple questions:

1 > After your debut you'll try more collaborations? One that I would like to see you singin with is Lady GaGa :) What do you think?

2 > When you came to Brazil to record Anycall commercial and promotional video, why weren't an announcement or especulation? A lot of fans (including me) felt a bit disappointed 'cos you were so close of us and we couldn't see you.

I really hope that someday you'll come here in Brazil to promote your work. And sure, I'll be there!

Fame and success for you, BoA!!!

What do you expect from after your debut album promotions?

What outcomes will you settle for in the case that you decide to record another US album?

How many singles do you plan to release with this album?

What will be your next single?

2)What was your reaction after knowing that 'Eat You Up' debut was well received by the Americans?

3)Your music video 'Eat You Up'and 'I Did It For Love' showcases your singing and dancing prowess, was it difficult for you to create those music videos? And what was your reaction after seeing your work?

Hi BoA! Here are my questions for you! ^^

1. Among the three countries you have entered the entertainment market, which one did you have the most difficult time?

2. If you'll be given a chance to have a collaboration with other famous acts, who will that be, and why?

3. If you weren't discovered when your brother was taking up the auditions, will you also be going to auditions to become a star?

4. If you're not a big star today, what do you think you'll be?

5. Your fellow artists in SM have followed your steps in entering other music markets, such as in Japan and China. Now that you're in America, who do you think will most likely follow you in debuting worldwide?

6. As you are preparing for your debut in America, what are the things that you miss will you are away from home, or to your second home (Japan)?

7. What are the differences between your Asian staffs from American staffs that you are working with?

8. After your debut in America, what are your next plans?

First of all congratulation for your US debut :)

1) Since you got fans all around the world, and the Asian fans got less chances to see you (expect Japanese and Korean), so will you try to hold a World Tour or Asia Tour soon (including Hong Kong)?

3) I do miss the time you spent in Korea, it is already a long time since your latest album "Girls on Top". Is there any plan for your next Korean album now?

4) I know you are close with TVXQ and you helped 5 of them a lots since their debut. Do you ever think of having a collaboration with TVXQ? I know there are lots of fans looking forward to seeing such a amazing collaboration!

Finally, I wish your future is full of success and hope to see you come to Hong Kong for promotion or holding concerts soon.

Again? You guys are so lucky! I've been watching Sidewalk interviews since BoA's xD

1) Do you think if you started to learn or study English the same time you did with Japanese (or study it as thuroughly as Japanese) that you would be more fluent or do you think that because English is so different from Asian languages that it would be just as hard?

2) The rumors of you debuting to America started when you were around 16 or 17 and now you're 22. Was the reason for you not debuting then because you didn't want to be called the second Britney Spears or the Asian Britney Spears? Or was your reason more personal?

3) If anyone else should cross over from Korea, who do you think would make it?

Hello!
1. How will you prevent your music from being negatively influenced by today's music scene where music does not come from the heart anymore and lack that "feel" like your past Korean/Japanese songs?
2.Will/Has your stay in the US affect you as a person and the way you perceive things as compared to your pre-US debut?
3.Will we be seeing any songs in future that can be mildly compared to Merri Chri or Every heart or will you stick to current American music culture?

Hajimemashite, BoA-sama! These are my questions. 1. Your US album has a lot of digitazied voice enhancing and a "techno" feel, do you like the outcome of that? 2. Was there a difference at all from the dancing in America than the dancing in Japan/Korea? 3. This question was something I personally always wondered. I looked at a lot record labels in Asia and such, do you think a Non-Asian is ever abled to break into the music industry? But not using American music, just singing Chinese, Japanese, or Korean music and being viewed as a "Asian" singer? BoA-chan sugoi da! Your my insperation for music, ne! BoA Hwaiting! Heh Jaa ne!

BoA-chan, I've been a huge fan since your Listen to My Heart single back in 2002. I'm really excited for your US debut. Wishing you all the best. I'll always support you.

Question 1: I'm loving your new song I Did It For Love. I really think that this song will be a big hit here. When can we expect to hear this song or any of your songs on the radio?

Question 2: For 2009, will you be concentrating your activities only in the US or will you still be doing activities in Japan as well?

Question 3: I just read that Teriyaki Boyz will also be entering the US market with their 2nd album "Serious Japanese". Since you have done collaborations with Verbal and Wise before, would you consider doing a collaboration with Teriyaki Boyz here in the States in the near future?

Question 4: On the recent Merengue no Kimochi show, you said that you're in the process of moving. Are you moving to another place in Tokyo? Or are you moving all your stuff completely out of Tokyo to LA?

Question 5: Lately, when you appear TV/music shows, I noticed that you don't have much energy and don't smile as much anymore. Is it because you're tired from the jetlag or because you're nervous? I hope you will take good care of yourself and smile more often because you have a beautiful smile.

1)I have 2 questions to make you:
What is the biggest challenge in time to produce the album?
2)how to BoA in your free time?
3)all ask if there will be a "Tour", if you happen to have one, you are ready?

BoA Hello, my name is Felipe, and I do Brasil, I've been a big fan of you since 2003....

1º BoA, all your new album's songs were composed and produced by other people, and, normally you compose in your japanese and korean's albuns. Is there anyone of that musics that you mostly identified with? Regarding melody and lyrics, like, is there a music that you wouldn't change anything?

2ª BoA, you used to say you had the dream of graduating in a english college, do you still have this dream? Do you intend to, someday, make this true?

3ª This will be one of your most diferent albuns. What does this album have in common with the others?

Hey BoA, it’s me your biggest German fan Alexander^^. I have a question. You just started your career in the US with Eat You Up, Look Who’s Talking and I did it for Love. These were all English songs and I was wondering if you want to continue to sing English songs in the US or if you want to sing in Korean or Japanese one day? Don’t get me wrong I really like your English songs, but I think your Asian languages would make you even more special in the US and I think it would sound even better if you can express yourself in your native languages(Japanese too^^).

Your biggest German fan

Hi BoA! My name is Taynan and I'm from Guarulhos (city), São Paulo (state), Brazil. I'm your fan since 2004. When you came here to record the MV of Anyband, many Brazilians fans had been crazy. You were so close, and we didn’t kwon about it, and didn’t see you. So, I want to ask you : - Did you visit some place in Rio de Janeiro, or just record the MV? - Will you visit Brazil someday? - Do you have boyfriend? Haha Because we never heard anything about it. - Why do you think that you will be a success in the U.S.A.? - Where are your cat Sara? I really miss her! - Why don’t you sing your English versions of your Korean/Japanese songs? I like them! Especially Double, Valenti, Sara and Id Peace B. - Why you didn’t record any album in Korea these years? - Why don’t you focus only the American career? I know that is a lot of questions, but I will be very happy if you can answer any of them. And I really want to buy your American Cd here in the Brazil stores.. can this be reality? Do your best, and take care! We love you! Please don’t forget it.

I completely forgot to include my info! Sorry! But I have another question if none of those were good enough xD

There are countless fans waiting for your return to the Korean Music Industry and it's always being pushed back although we now know why.
Is there a certain goal you want to achieve before you head back to Asia? Are you planning for immediate success or waiting until you get recognized before you head back? After you achieve your set goal for your plans to America, will it be back to Japan or Back to Korea?
